Last Night's Event: Why Courts Matter 101- A Virtual Town Hall
|
| |
|
Last night, Why Courts Matter - Pennsylvania and affiliated organization New Pennsylvania Project hosted Why Courts Matter: 101. The virtual town hall touched on how courts impact your life and provided general civic education regarding the structure of the federal courts, judicial selection, and the true meaning of judicial independence. |
|
|
|
On Thursday, January 30th at 6:30-8:00PM, New Pennsylvania Project will host their second virtual town hall on the importance of our state and federal courts. The event’s goal is to ensure that our communities are fully informed about the importance of having fair and independent state and federal courts, so that voters are compelled to vote and protect the courts' independence. |

Pennsylvania is one of only seven states in the entire country that votes for all of our judges and justices in partisan elections. November 2025, voters in PA will have the power to elect judges or remove judges and justices for the bench in nonpartisan retention election voting. Three PA Supreme Court Justices will likely be on the ballot for retention voting next Fall. #CourtsMatter #YourVoiceYourPowerYourVote |

Previewing the 2024 Supreme Court Term
"In the face of growing calls for Supreme Court reform, the court will hear cases in the coming months providing them the ability to widen the fissures in the rule of law they created in recent terms that will further weaken Americans’ civil rights, voting rights, and the freedom from being preyed upon by monied and powerful private interests."
What can be done about this Supreme Court’s very worst decisions?
"Amending the Constitution is virtually impossible, and it is literally impossible if either major political party opposes an amendment. Even if some of these reforms can be enacted through ordinary legislation, moreover, the Court’s Republican majority would probably just strike them down anyway."
The Constitutional Law Theory That Could Upend American Elections
"The theory argues that state legislatures have special authority to set federal election rules, free from interference from other parts of the state government. Despite running contrary to precedent and history, the Supreme Court appears dangerously close to adopting it — with potentially disastrous ramifications for democracy."

| Empowering our communities to engage in all of their local elections
|
Elections have consequences - that's what we're driving home to our communities on the ground as we register folks to vote.
We anticipate 2025 to be full of unexpected turns, and that's why we're passionate to offer civic education about how powerful their vote can be when it comes to their daily lives.
Your vote has the power to influence your rights and freedoms.
As our peers wind down for the winter holidays, our teams continue to work hard throughout the Commonwealth.
We're committed to closing out this year STRONG! |
