A QCD allows people who are older than 70 and a half to donate up to $100,000 directly from a taxable IRA instead of taking the required minimum distributions. As a result of this, you might be able to avoid taxes or even being pushed into a higher income tax bracket and even prevent phaseouts of other tax deductions. Not only will you be supporting the NAS, you'll be maximizing the effect of your other charitable gifts as well.
