It's been a hard f***ing year
It's been a hard couple of f***ing years 😂.
The last few years have felt like we’ve been stuck in a perpetual
state of change; never quite leaving or arriving anywhere. I
thought this state was temporary, a moment to move through and
beyond. But I realize now that the discomfort of this transition
and those to come IS the work.
To practice “in between" is to be connected to where we are
coming from and where we are going. It is to exist in the
constant state of change, to navigate the discomfort of doing
something different, and to embrace the possibility ahead.

Which brings me to the question I’ve been holding for years
now…”how do we hold change?” 🤔 (thanks to adrienne maree brown
for writing a whole book
( [link removed] )about this :)
Typical self-help traps like “how do we manifest our best life”
and “how do we live up to our greatest potential?” (a question I
have been guilty of exploring if not promoting) keep us stuck in
striving towards a never-ending destination.
But how do we hold change hits differently. It is not caught up
in goals or outcomes. It doesn’t orient itself to the
destination. Rather, it inspires and challenges us to embrace the
process as it unfolds.
Navigating the in-between is not about making change happen, but
creating the conditions for learning and possibility to emerge.
Here are some things I’ve learned along the way:
-->
-->
-->
-->
-->
-->
-->
📍 Starting where you are. So often we vision and dream from
the location of “where we think we should be” vs where we
actually are. When we don’t fully acknowledge our location and
the conditions of our current state, we cannot know where we are
going, nor how to get there. It means that we have to slow down
and get still enough to be fully alive and aware in this moment
so we can move from the presence.

👁️ Learning to see. Holding change challenges us to see
what is beyond the surface. It is an invitation to disarm our
shields, deconstruct our shaping, challenge our ideas/stories and
imagine better. Ruby Sales reminds us that “we need hindsight,
foresight and insight” to navigate these times. From there,
perhaps we can see a world of possibility that is beyond our
wildest dreams.

🎲 Non-closure. Accepting non closure is the very
frustrating process of letting go of the outcome. Attachments to
our comfort, to one right way, to progress and playbooks limit
the scope of what is possible. Non-closure allows us to explore
and experiment in a way that is rooted in transformation not
destination.

-->

💥 Holding possibility. It’s hard not to feel despair in the
face of so much suffering around the world. And I’m not
advocating for a “hopy-changey” attitude. But I am inviting us to
hold space for wonder, creativity and possibility. More so, to
consider how you might be in the way of possibility and change so
that you can do your part and confront your own limitations. May
we all be catalysts for radical transformation.
