Dear Ward 8 Residents,

The economic effects of the pandemic on FY 2020 have been significant and require a revised FY 2020 budget that addresses the revenue shortfall.

I am pleased with the structure of this budget, in terms of how we use our fund balance to address the crisis without allowing for layoffs and furloughs of DC government workers and without allowing for major cuts to areas such as education and public safety. Nonetheless, I am calling on us as a government to do more.
My list of budget concerns include:
* Malcolm X Opportunity Center
* DC Infrastructure Academy
* Reunion Square
* Funding allocations for Ward 8 Schools
* Violence Prevention
* Senior living and;
* Housing

Additionally, in yesterday's legislative session, I worked with my council colleagues to freeze rent for District residents during this public health emergency. The emergency legislation is in place to freeze rent and evictions however, some property owners are trying to illegally evict tenants. We must consider residents and find a balanced approach to support both tenants and property owners during this public health emergency.

Take the time to watch the clips below from the legislative and budget hearings. I look forward to continuing to fight for equity on behalf of Ward 8 residents and residents of the District of Columbia. Stay safe.

Regards,

Trayon White, Sr.

Child Care Services for Workers at Essential Businesses ()

** Child Care
------------------------------------------------------------

Because coronavirus (COVID-19) poses serious risks to public health and safety, the best option for families is to keep their children at home with them.

For workers employed at essential businesses, however, child care outside the home might be a necessity. The Bowser Administration is working to ensure that essential workers who need child care have options.

DC Child Care Connections can help connect families with licensed child care providers who have remained open during the public health emergency. Please call (202) 829-2500 or email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) to find out more.

For health care workers and essential government employees and contractors, the Bowser Administration has partnered with several licensed child care providers to create emergency child care sites.
