How to cook + enjoy Dungeness Crab

Dungeness Crab, or "Dungies" are prized for their sweet, tender meat and for having one of the largest yields of crab meat. So the effort to prepare and enjoy these beauties is well worth it! Crabs will arrive to you fresh and lightly steamed. You can choose between cracked and cleaned or whole crabs.

Here are a few of our favorite ways to enjoy and serve them:
* The most simple method: steam over boiling hot water for about 10 minutes which will keep the crab juicy and warm it through. Serve with melted butter and fresh bread.
* Bake or Roast with white wine, garlic and herbs ([link removed])
* Sautee in white wine, butter and garlic. ([link removed]) Crack the legs and claws open with a hammer or handle of your knife so more flavor gets into the meat.
* Pick the meat for crab cakes ([link removed]) , omelettes or this crab salad with mint oil ([link removed])
* The ultimate winter seafood dish - Cioppino ([link removed]) !

Just remember to skip the step of boiling if it's mentioned in these recipes, as we've already done this step for you!
Crabs are caught to order and steamed just before shipping. Cooked and cleaned crab will come in 1 lb clusters, including the legs, claws, and body and without the carapace. Whole crabs will range from 1.5-2 lbs and include the carapace shell and "butter."

Plan on 1-2 crabs per person if serving it as a main dish, or 1/2 lb per person if it's a side or appetizer. Crabs and their picked meat can also be frozen if you'd like them for a future meal.
