John,
Elon Musk is not the president— but he’s inserted himself into a situation that could result in a federal government shutdown.
Here’s what’s happening: The House was preparing to vote on a continuing resolution (CR) with bipartisan support, which would keep the government funded until March. The government can’t run without this money.
Then, Elon sent out a flurry of posts opposing the resolution and threatening to target any House Republicans who voted in favor of the CR — before Donald Trump even formed an opinion.
Immediately after he sent that tweet — or X, whatever he wants to call it now — dozens of House Republicans reversed their support.
That’s the reality we’re living in right now. It’s absurd. And it should terrify us all.
The fact is that Elon and his billionaire buddies are not going to lose sleep if the government shuts down. Working people and our troops are the ones who’ll bear the cost — because they could have their funding delayed or be furloughed right before the holidays.
If Republicans can’t find their spine and stand up against Elon Musk, then we need leaders who will — now. Contribute to help me continue calling out this dysfunction and stand up against any attacks on hardworking Americans.
