Top Ten Moments of 2024
As we move into a world with a lot of uncertainty, our victories remind us of what we’re capable of doing together, against big opposition. With the help of our partners, legislative champions, funders, and supporters like you, EnviroVoters, the Ed Fund, and our PAC entities accomplished some game-changing results in 2024. From historic investments in clean energy and resilience, to electing exciting new climate justice champions, to protecting thousands of acres of nature, to building youth leadership, to participating in environmental progress with the United Nations, we have a lot to be proud of.
As we close out 2024, it’s clear that California will have an outsized responsibility to fight back against national attacks on our progress, as well as create the wave of new state climate action. And our Top 10 accomplishments this year prove that California and EnviroVoters are up to the task. Thank you for joining us in this fight.
Starting with moments from California Environmental Voters:

1) Passed Historic $10 billion Investment in Climate Solutions: In the biggest climate win of 2024, Californians overwhelmingly voted for Proposition 4, an unprecedented $10 billion investment in resilience and clean energy solutions! This was EnviroVoters’ top legislative priority this year, and we overcame obstacle after obstacle to get it on the ballot.
2) Won 70% of our head-to-head priority races against Big Oil: EnviroVoters and our PAC entities helped our climate champions win in 7 out of 10 of our priority races while being outspent by Big Oil 20:1, increasing our number of environmental legislators in the Assembly and Senate.
3) Passed 12 major pieces of Climate Legislation: EnviroVoters organized winning support to Make Polluters Pay by passing AB 1866, AB 2716, and AB 3233, which protects communities from oil companies and holds them accountable. We also got SB 1221 across the finish line, establishing neighborhood-scale electrification projects. And we beat back proposed delays and weakening of EnviroVoters-sponsored Corporate Climate Accountability Package from 2023, with the passage of SB 219.
4) Defeated Attempt to Delay Clean Air Regulations: EnviroVoters jumped into action to stop ABX2-8 during the state legislative special session this fall. This bad legislation proposed a 2-year postponement of a hard-fought new rule regulating oil tanker ships set to go into effect in 2025, and would have delayed relief to port communities suffering from heavy pollution.

5) Expanded Two National Monument Designations: EnviroVoters Ed Fund’s years-long advocacy for expansion of San Gabriel Mountain and Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monuments finally paid off when President Biden signed proclamations protecting an additional 100,000 acres-plus in these monuments.
6) Led California’s Delegation to the United Nations Biodiversity COP: As an official non-governmental observer for this year’s United Nations’ Conference of the Parties (COP) in Colombia, EnviroVoters Ed Fund led the California Global Biodiversity Working Group, partnered with the California Natural Resources Agency, and brought dozens of partners and legislators to the conference to use California’s progress towards protecting 30% of our lands and waters by 2030 to advance international negotiations on targets and conservation.
7) Grew our Cohort of Youth Leaders: EnviroVoters Ed Fund’s Youth Ambassador Program in the Inland Empire and Central Valley has expanded to the Sierra! The Ambassadors built on their Water Equity and Clean Air Now! (WE CAN!) campaign, recruiting 173 volunteers, organizing 30 events, and hosting a statewide town hall with other youth advocacy coalitions across the state.
8) Connected Communities to Climate Funding: EnviroVoters Ed Fund held two Climate Investment Accelerator events in Orange County and the Inland Empire to connect municipal leaders and community organizations to resources and information on how to access Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding for their cities and counties. This funding will kickstart projects for new green jobs and workforce training, the transition to heavy-duty electric vehicles, and the implementation of infrastructural improvements for a smoother transition to clean energy.
9) Released a Roadmap to Closing Voter Participation Gaps: EnviroVoters Ed Fund published groundbreaking research on closing California’s voter participation gap. With California turnout in the November election down by 10% from 2020, our state has a big responsibility to invest in the counties and communities that have the biggest gaps in voter turnout, and this research provides a clear roadmap and price tag on how to do that.
10) Hosted U.S. Senate Candidate Debate: The Ed Fund, in partnership with Fox 11 and Politico, co-sponsored the first-ever televised multiparty U.S. Senate Primary Debate in January, with Democrats Rep. Barbara Lee, Rep. Adam Schiff, and Rep. Katie Porter, and Republican Steve Garvey. This televised event ensured voters across the state could hear directly from candidates on their vision for a climate just future.
