As a supporter of the fair maps movement, you know just how critical state supreme court justices are to ensuring fair representation in our democracy.

It’s why we’re so excited about the re-election of Justice Allison Riggs — one of our 2024 Democracy Defenders — to the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Justice Riggs’s re-election keeps a strong, pro-democracy voice on this important court in a state that is once again one of the most egregiously gerrymandered states in the country.

And get this: Justice Riggs beat her Republican challenger by just 734 votes out of more than 5.5 million — that’s just over 7 votes per county.

With razor-thin margins like that, it’s safe to say that every single little thing we did helped make the difference. But our work did not end on Election Day. And with an incoming Trump administration and Republican-led government, the stakes are high.

To protect fair maps, combat ongoing gerrymandering, and prepare for the redistricting battles coming our way in 2025 and beyond, please make a contribution to the NDRC right now. [[link removed]]

The NDRC and our affiliates have a strategic plan for political, electoral, and legal engagement throughout the decade, to build and shift power so that pro-democracy leaders are in the right places in advance of the next redistricting cycle.

Together, we can ensure states with independent redistricting commissions run full and transparent processes that result in fair maps, call out elected officials who are working to draw bad maps, build and participate in a strong coalition that exemplifies fair map-drawing practices, and support legislation to support fair redistricting practices.

All of it takes support from this community ahead of key fundraising deadlines like this one at the end of the year. If you’re reading this, you’re no ordinary Democrat — you understand that fair representation relies on people standing up against egregious, partisan efforts to manipulate democracy.

Thank you for all that you do,

Ted
