The U.S. is on the brink of a government shutdown — and it’s all because extreme House Republicans have chosen to abandon the American people and put billionaires first. Let me explain:

After several weeks of negotiations, House Democrats and Republicans agreed on a bipartisan bill that would fund the government until March and provide critical aid for farmers, seniors, veterans, and disaster relief.

The bill was set to be voted on and passed before the government shuts down this weekend, until the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, ordered Republicans to kill the bill — threatening a government shutdown just days before the holidays begin.

Let’s be clear about this: Elon Musk is the last person who would be hurt by a government shutdown. But at his command, far-right House Republicans have decided to turn their backs on the American people.

Now, the GOP is refusing to do the right thing and honor our bipartisan agreement.
