Dear John,
Nearly four years ago, we started Ground Game Texas with a theory: that leading with popular, progressive issues at the local level is the key to building long-term change in Texas. Since that time, this organization has run 17 ballot measure campaigns in cities across the state, on issues like marijuana reform, climate change, campaign finance reform, and abortion rights.
Out of Ground Game’s 17 campaigns so far, we’ve won 14 of them. And along the way, we’ve helped support a community of young leaders and grassroots organizations that continue to build progressive power across Texas.
I’ve been honored to serve Ground Game as a co-founder, political director, and general counsel. As some of you know, I recently won a campaign to become a City Council representative in Austin, Texas. I will be transitioning out of my staff role by the end of the year, but I will stay with the organization as a member of its Board of Directors.
Please join me in continuing to support Ground Game Texas as a sustaining donor.
John, as I transition from my staff role at Ground Game, the organization could not be in better hands. Our executive director, Catina Voellinger, has been leading the organization since late March, and under her watch we’ve experienced powerful programmatic and operational successes.
Catina and our core staff of Mars, Ben, and Matt made sure we won all of our ballot measure campaigns this year — in Dallas, McAllen, Lockhart, Bastrop, and Amarillo — alongside our amazing partners. And with our board, Catina has built relationships with local and national stakeholders who more and more can see how Ground Game is playing an essential, strategic role in Texas politics.
As a future city council representative, I’m excited to work for progressive policies at the local level in a different capacity, while also continuing to offer advice and support to Ground Game as a board member. My role may be changing, but my passion for the movement this organization represents is unchanged.
Thank you for being with us on this journey. Here’s to the work ahead!
In solidarity,
Mike Siegel
