Did you know that Amazon is suing the federal government in an attempt to abolish the National Labor Relations Board?
John,
Amazon workers are on strike.
In the spring of 2022, Amazon warehouse workers on Staten Island, New York voted to become the first unionized Amazon workers in the country. I know the power of unions. When my dad joined the UAW, working the assembly line at Ford, our family got healthcare coverage for the first time.
Unions are instrumental in achieving fair wages, safe work environments, fair scheduling, and more. But, more than two-and-a-half years later, management at Amazon is still refusing to negotiate a contract with Amazon Labor Union – International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1.
But Staten Island Amazon workers are not alone. From southern California to Skokie, Illinois to Queens, New York, workers at numerous Amazon facilities have all voted to strike.
Did you know that Amazon is suing the federal government in an attempt to abolish the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), which advocates for workers rights, including the right to unionize?
Thanks to the NLRB, we know that in 2022, Amazon was responsible for 53% of all injuries in the warehouse industry, even as Amazon employs just 36% of warehouse workers in the U.S.
That same year, the NLRB ordered a new union election at an Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, ruling that Amazon had illegally interfered with the previous year’s union vote, manipulating the manner of the election to try to intimidate workers.
Together, we're uplifting the demands of workers everywhere as they stand up to greedy corporations that put shareholder profits over workers’ rights and wages.
