John,

Our state almost had a seismic attack on our values, and the presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C. hasn’t even happened yet.

Far-right, monied activists attempted to use Donald Trump’s election and the idea of ‘friendly’ conservative courts to go after California’s clean air laws. Thankfully, the Supreme Court just dropped the challenge, but it’s a chilling reminder that we are vulnerable to a resurgent far-right.

We are entering uncharted times, and that requires clear heads, belief, and the willingness to use every tool in our arsenal to protect California's progress that allow everyone to thrive.

Our ability to set our own clean air standards isn’t just about laws—it’s following the will of the people, and letting all of us decide the greater good. And that’s especially true for vulnerable communities who will never get the resources to personally appeal their desires to the Supreme Court.

Leadership is doing what’s right, even when it’s hard. I stood up to Trump’s Administration as your Controller, and I will do it again as your next Governor.

I won’t allow anyone to use our state as a tool to play partisan politics. However, if we’re going to defeat extremism, I’ll need your help:

We have a major fundraising deadline of our campaign that hits at month’s end, and I’ve never been more fired up to close out strong to help ensure California is a firewall of freedoms. If you’re with me, please chip in $3 today.

Wishing you a meaningful holiday season,

Betty
