We’ve been talking a lot about how we’re planning to fight back against Donald Trump’s corruption and abuses of power, but he is far from the only politician that we have our eye on at CREW.
CREW just filed an FEC complaint against Senator Kyrsten Sinema for apparently using her campaign to pay for personal expenses.
The Federal Election Campaign Act prohibits political campaigns from spending campaign funds for personal use if the expenses “would exist irrespective of the candidate’s election campaign.”
Sinema announced she would not run for reelection on March 5, but since then her campaign spent over $100,000 for what appear to be personal travel expenses, including trips to Europe and California wine country.
The thing is, the law applies to you whether it’s your first week in office or your last.
That’s why we filed this complaint, even with the holidays fast approaching and Sinema’s time in office coming to an end.
We’re not in the business of letting politicians off the hook when they cross ethical red lines.
