Rock the Vote

      Dear John,

Rock the Vote is working harder than ever to ensure election protection and fight for safe voting options for young voters, many of whom will be navigating the voting process for the first time and whose experiences will be further complicated by the the uncertainty and restrictions caused by COVID-19.

We are continuing to meet young voters where they are - online - to empower them with information and resources. Here are a few highlights of our recent efforts:

Empowering Together!
We are excited to report on the launch of the Empower Together webinar mini-series that aims to address the issues young people are grappling with as a result of COVID-19. The mini-series kicked off with New York Assembly Member Michael Blake and NBA Player and Memphis Grizzly Jaren Jackson, Jr., who joined us to talk about caring for one's self and one's community at this time. Our second series event featured actress and advocate Logan Browning of Netflix’s Dear White People, along with experts from The Eviction Lab and the National Multifamily Housing Council, who spoke on the economic impact of COVID-19 on our communities and offered information and resources to those struggling to pay their rent and utility bills. Follow us on social media to stay in the loop about our upcoming May 28th webinar, which will focus on Student Loans and the Pandemic.

Protecting the Youth Vote in the Wake of COVID-19
On May 11th, we joined a panel of extraordinary women leaders who are working to protect voters’ rights amidst COVID-19. The panel, “We The People: Protecting Our Right to Vote in the Wake of COVID-19,” was hosted by Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and included Kristen Clarke from Lawyers’ Committee; Karen Hobert-Flynn of Common Cause; Terry Ao Minnis from Asian Americans Advancing Justice-AAAJ; Melanie Campbell of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP); and was moderator by Dr. Christina Greer of Fordham University. Partnering with VICE on the Power of Environmental Justice
April 22nd marked the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, and Rock the Vote was proud to partner with VICE to bring the voices of young people to the frontlines of the fight for environmental justice. Rock the Vote’s Michigan Ambassador, Wei Wei took over the VICE Instagram account to speak on the collective power of the youth vote; its impact on the environment: and how we can hold government officials accountable to protect our planet. Follow us on Instagram to stay a top of future collaborations, and to check out our takeover.
