I’m Greisa, the Executive Director at United We Dream. I wanted you to be the first to hear about a major decision our team has made:
United We Dream will be leaving X, formerly Twitter, by the end of 2024.
As the largest immigrant youth-led network in the country, we’re committed to empowering young people to get in the driver’s seat and make their voices heard!
It’s no secret that over the past two years, X has turned into an echo chamber of misinformation, anti-immigrant hate, and a propaganda machine to spread authoritarian ideas that go against our fight for liberation for all.
This wasn’t an easy decision to make. But the fact is that X is currently rigged and built to oppose the work we do. The platform and tool that we used to organize our communities — and where we were able to reach over 120,000 followers like you over the past decade — no longer exists. Now, in its place, is a digital platform that, by design, acts as a megaphone to amplify bad actors who want to harm our communities. 😡
As organizers, our goal has been and always will be to show up for our communities, to reach our people where they are, and to fight for a safer, inclusive world for all. X no longer serves the needs of our communities and continuously tries to suppress voices fighting for justice.
While some in our communities might continue to use the platform, we strongly urge you and our progressive allies to leave the platform with us.
Together, we turned Twitter/X into a powerful space for organizing — where we shared the lived experiences of our communities and delivered resources to our loved ones when they needed it most.
No matter what, we will bring this creativity anywhere else we go. People did not follow us on Twitter/X because of the platform, they followed us because of our vision.
