Dear John,
I want to check in with you.
We are in a queasy interregnum. It’s been 6 weeks since Donald Trump won the election. A month from tomorrow, he’ll be sworn in.
Trump has nominated a Star Wars cantina of fanatics, conspiracy theorists, billionaires, sexual abusers, and disreputable no-goods for key positions like Attorney General, FBI Director, and Secretary of Defense.
Many of you are frightened. Me too. You’d have to be living on another planet not to be afraid of what’s coming.
If you’re tempted to tune out the news and look away, I understand. But in the face of Trump’s corruption, hate, and brutality, it is our responsibility to resist and protect those who are in harm's way.
Inequality Media Civic Action was on the front lines during Trump’s first term. We know how to stop the worst parts of his agenda, and we’ll do it again by mobilizing the grassroots, circumventing the mainstream media, and getting the truth out directly to people online.
But we need your help to fund this incredible operation. So I’m asking you today: Will you make a monthly donation to Inequality Media Civic Action and help support our efforts to stop Trump’s cruel and radical agenda?
Trump’s pick to run the FBI is pledging a campaign of vengeance against his political enemies. The people he wants in charge of the military are promising mass deportations. The billionaires he’s put in charge of eliminating “waste” are gunning for Social Security. The guy he wants to run the nation’s health is a nutcase who doesn’t believe in vaccinations.
Meanwhile, most of the criminal charges against Trump, as well as his sentencing for the felonies he was found guilty of having committed, have been dropped or vacated.
Recently, I heard from an old friend who’s also a U.S. senator, who writes: “The new administration isn’t as bad as we thought. It’s worse.” It was good to hear from him. We need people of integrity on the front lines to try to constrain Trump and his sicko sycophants.
Yet even those of us who aren’t on the front lines must be activists. Stand up to them. Call them out. Do not tolerate intolerance. We cannot compromise with cruelty. There is no middle ground between democracy and fascism.
As we head into the darkness, we need each other to help light the way forward. Inequality Media Civic Action fought every day through Trump’s first term to block his worst abuses, and we’re ready to do it again.
So if you can afford it, please, will you make a monthly donation to Inequality Media Civic Action and help support our efforts to stop Trump’s cruel and radical agenda?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
