Dear John,
There’s been a lot of talk since the election about how Republicans are now the party of the working class.
Hogwash.
The idea of Donald Trump as some sort of champion of working people represents the biggest con job he’s ever pulled off in a lifetime of scams and frauds.
Who do you think will pay for Trump’s 25% across-the-board tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico? Who will be harmed by Elon Musk’s plan to cut Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare?
If even a fraction of Trump’s Project 2025 agenda is enacted, it will be a disaster for working families — so many of whom voted for him.
Unfortunately, the corporate media has done a horrible job explaining these issues for decades, and it’s only going to get worse, with Trump threatening to sue or even jail anyone in the news media who dares to criticize him.
It’s up to us to alert the public about how Trump’s policies are screwing over working people, and Inequality Media Civic Action is already producing a new wave of viral videos and explainer posts to get the truth out.
But we need your help to fund this effort, so I’m asking you today: Will you make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action to get the truth out and help stop Trump's far-right, anti-working class agenda?
I’ve made no secret of my view that Democrats need to do more to fight for working people. Some of the criticism saying that Democrats have lost touch has merit.
But Donald Trump as the populist champion of working people? Give me a break.
Trump is a lifelong con man who inherited his money from his slumlord father. Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, spent $277 million to help get him elected, and now Trump is putting Musk in charge of a commission to gut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
This is the opposite of populism. It’s oligarchy. Trump will sell out every one of his working-class supporters the first chance he gets. But he’s a master of distraction, and unless we call out his betrayals, he will get away with it again.
And if you’re waiting for the corporate media to call out the absurdity of Trump’s phony economic populism, you can forget it. The same CEOs and billionaires who own our major media outlets are lining up to cash in on another round of giant Trump tax cuts.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post, personally intervened to block his newspaper from endorsing against Trump in the presidential election. ABC News, which is owned by Disney, one of the biggest corporations in the world, just handed Trump a $15 million settlement after Trump sued them for defamation.
Inequality Media Civic Action was on the front lines of the first Trump presidency, and we’re gearing up to fight him again. The resistance starts now. Are you with me?
Make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action to educate the public and help stop Trump's far-right, anti-worker agenda.
Thank you,
Robert Reich
