Top Republican asked about Trump "enriching" himself as president, says it’s fine as long as he’s "transparent" about his businesses
James Comer, the leader of Republicans' baseless and incessant pursuit of the "Biden crime family" has done a total (if entirely predictable) about-face, declaring that it is totally AOK for Donald Trump to enrich himself from the perch of the presidency, so long as he is transparent about it. By all means, run your many rackets and money-laundering operations out of the Oval Office, Donald. Just be open about it, m'kay?

Trump brings chaos back to Washington by attempting to kill bipartisan budget deal with Musk’s help
The MAGA cult leader delivered a likely death blow to bipartisan congressional budget negotiations on Wednesday, rejecting the measure as full of giveaways to Democrats after his sidecar companion Elon Musk whipped up outrage toward the bill and cheered on Republican lawmakers who announced their opposition. Trump’s joint statement with Vice President-elect JD Vance, which stopped the bill in its tracks, punctuated a daylong torrent of social media posts by Musk attacking the legislation for what he described as excessive spending. Wonder which bedroom Elon is going to claim in the White House residential quarters next month...

"We kill civilians and count them as terrorists:" Israeli reservists reveal IDF units compete with each other to kill the most civilians
A shocking new report from Haaretz exposes the existence of a "kill zone" in the newly created Netzarim Corridor, an Israeli-built road that bisects Gaza, where civilians are shot dead without mercy and left to be eaten by dogs. “There is a line north of the Netzarim Corridor known as the ‘line of corpses,’ and the residents of Gaza are fully aware of its meaning. In this area, Palestinians are indiscriminately shot, and their bodies are left to be devoured by dogs,” an Israeli commander from Division 252 told Haaretz. “The killing area is the sniper's target range . . . We kill civilians there, and they are counted as terrorists,” he added, revealing that a “competition” exists between the different army divisions occupying the east-to-west corridor. “If Division 99 killed 150, then the next in line would try to reach 200.” Another soldier recounted, “We killed a young boy, 16 years old, maybe. When [another soldier] commented and said he was unarmed and seemed to be just a civilian . . . the commander said, “For me, anyone who crosses the line is a terrorist, no discounts, no civilians. Everyone is a terrorist.” Billions of American taxpayer dollars are paying for these war crimes, and the State Department is accused of violating American law to avoid holding the IDF accountable for these kinds of atrocities.
Anti-Trump forces build a network to aid potential political targets of the incoming administration
Lawyers and pro-democracy advocates are in the early stages of building a nationwide network of specialists aimed at defending and protecting people who may be targeted for retribution once President-elect Donald Trump takes office, according to multiple people involved in the effort. The sprawling initiative is intended to go far beyond legal assistance for those potentially subjected to criminal or civil investigations in a new Trump administration. Let's hope they have some deep pockets, because things are going to get really ugly this time around.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom declares state of emergency over bird flu, calling it a "proactive action"
The State of Emergency proclamation comes after more bird flu cases were detected in Southern California dairy cows, Gov. Gavin Newsom's office stated. Wednesday also saw the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report the first severe illness in a person due to bird flu from a Louisiana case. The threat to birds has been happening for a couple of years now, with wildlife hospitals observing strict infection precautions. But then it jumped to cattle, specifically dairy cattle, where biosecurity measures are only now beginning to be imposed.
Republicans struggle to unify heading into a high-stakes 2025
Republicans’ post-election sugar high of confidence is wearing off. The familiar bitterness that descended on the GOP over a spending deal intended to clear the decks for Donald Trump is a stark reminder of how difficult the party will have it next year. House Speaker Mike Johnson will have to pass a new funding bill as soon as next month, while working on a massive party-line plan to implement the MAGA cult leader's agenda and addressing the debt limit, all with a majority that’s even smaller than the one he currently has. Good luck with that, Mike.
Oklahoma proposes chilling new rule for immigrant children
In 1982, the US Supreme Court ruled in Plyler v. Doe that schools must enroll ALL children, regardless of their immigration status, making it illegal to ask individual students about their immigration status. But the Oklahoma State Department of Education — the same body that mandated bibles AND the Ten Commandments be placed and taught in EVERY public school classroom in the state — won't be bothered with our pesky Constitution or high court precedents. The radical right-wing department, run by Christian nationalist Superintendent Ryan Walters, proposed a new — and very illegal — administrative rule on Tuesday that would require school districts to collect data on all undocumented students in the state. All this just one month before Trump, who has vowed to round up millions upon millions of immigrants and deport them elsewhere, returns to power.
