John,

Last week, House Democrats passed our latest relief package to help families, small businesses, and hospitals get through the COVID-19 crisis.

The HEROES Act includes funding for state and local governments; direct assistance with mortgage payments, property taxes, property insurance, utilities, and other housing-related costs; contingency planning, preparation, and election protection; and additional funds for small businesses and the Postal Service.

This is the fourth stimulus bill that has passed through Congress since this crisis began. The first bill included emergency funding for vaccine research and support for state and local agencies. The second relief package included paid leave, expanded food assistance, extended unemployment insurance, and free coverage for COVID-19 testing. The third package, the CARES Act, provided direct cash payments to Americans struggling with the economic repercussions of COVID-19, food security, and much more.

I have worked very hard to ensure that ANY legislation passed by the U.S. House takes responsibility for the health, wages, and well-being of America’s workers – not just large corporate interests.

Please know that I am doing everything I can in Washington to make sure Connecticut gets the help we need.

I have supported legislation to protect vulnerable Connecticut residents from food insecurity, foreclosures, and evictions. I have fought to ensure disaster assistance for farms and self-employed farmers. I’m pushing to ensure healthcare workers have the personal protective equipment they need and hospitals and providers receive the funding they need. And I am fighting to ensure incarcerated individuals and corrections workers can stay healthy and get the care they deserve.

John, the work is far from done. Thank you for standing with me. I will keep you updated as these measures work their way through Congress.
