This is our special Congress and Biden play Santa Claus (with our money) issue...

1) The Dumbpublicans

Well, we sounded the alarm and sent boats and helicopters to try to save Republicans from themselves.

But as the old saying goes! You can lead a horse to water…

For forty years, the WEP prevented government workers with lavish pensions earned while exempt from federal payroll taxes from getting windfall Social Security benefits ([link removed]) , by working 10 years in a regular job.

On the key Senate vote yesterday, only one of the 13 Republican cosponsors we urged to reconsider (Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee) came to her senses and voted no. But twelve more Republicans who had not cosponsored the bill voted for it, bringing the Republican total to 24 and making the overall count 73 to 27 ([link removed]) .

For the record, here are their names. You'll notice a lot of people who voted to spend/borrow $200 billion on a give-away to public employee unions who should have known better... Sometimes we feel like giving up!

2) Speaking of Runaway Spending, We Have the Appropriations Debacle

So much for Biden handing off a healthy economy and a declining deficit to Trump. DJT is inheriting a fiscal mess that would be made worse with the 1,500 page spending bill that is three months late and that not a single member of Congress has read - unless they are speed readers.

This is no way to make sausage and Trump is right to howl in protest. He’s also spot on to demand that this pitiful president (Joe Biden, anyone remember him?) and this pitiful Congress deal with the debt ceiling - since THEY created the mess.

We excerpt from Trump’s kill-the-bill statement yesterday ([link removed]) :

Congress is considering a spending bill that would give sweetheart provisions for government censors and for Liz Cheney. The bill would make it easier to hide the records of the corrupt January 6 committee--which accomplished nothing for the American people and hid security failures that happened that day. This bill would also give Congress a pay increase while many Americans are struggling this Christmas…

If Democrats won't cooperate on the debt ceiling now, what makes anyone think they would do it in June during our administration? Let's have this debate now. And we should pass a streamlined spending bill that doesn't give Chuck Schumer and the Democrats everything they want…

Republicans must GET SMART and TOUGH. If Democrats threaten to shut down the government unless we give them everything they want, then CALL THEIR BLUFF. It is Schumer and Biden who are holding up aid to our farmers and disaster relief.

THIS CHAOS WOULD NOT BE HAPPENING IF WE HAD A REAL PRESIDENT. WE WILL IN 32 DAYS!

Oh no! It looks like we may be headed for a partial government shutdown where nonessential employees can’t show up at the federal office buildings for work.

Oh, wait! How’s that different than what’s been happening for the last four years?

Where all the $7 Trillion Goes

3) Trump Has "Unleashed Astonishing Animal Spirits"

U.S. reporters have been slow to appreciate just how dramatic boost in confidence that Donald Trump has brought to the economy since his election.

But their British counterparts are ahead of them on this - as they often are.

Take Gillian Tett, chair of the editorial board of the establishment Financial Times, who appeared on MSNBC of all places this week and said:

Donald Trump's election has unleashed astonishing animal spirits. By animal spirits, I'm referring to the economist John Maynard Keynes from King's College Cambridge, who argued that when people start to feel widely optimistic and confident, that basically causes them to spend more, invest more, hire more, and you get this self-fulfilling cycle of growth.

And right now everyone can sense there is an extraordinary explosion of animal (spirits) for its American relations to the economy, and particularly relative to all the other major trading partners, like Europe or Asia right now. So the CEOs are acting like rational business people, saying, 'We want to be part of that. We want to be part of this growth story.'

[link removed]

This is 100 percent accurate - for now. To keep the good feelings and positive momentum going, Trump and Congress will have to get the tax cuts done as soon as possible.

4) Meanwhile, Biden Is Sending Out Eight-Figure Checks to His Buddies

We’ve mentioned previously that Biden is spending every penny and quarter he can shake from the cushions on the federal sofa, but this headline from yesterday’s WSJ only further infuriated us:

[link removed]

The Biden administration will provide a record $15 billion low-interest loan commitment to California utility company PG&E to support hundreds of projects aimed at fighting the effects of climate change and improving the electrical grid.

Outrageous! Now, federal taxpayers have to bail out the crazy green new deal programs that have helped bankrupt California and driven their energy costs into the stratosphere?

More EV subsidies. More wind and solar giveaways. More green new deal mandates? Isn’t this precisely what voters voted AGAINST?

We’re all for letting states do what they want, but taxpayers in Wisconsin, Maine, and Michigan shouldn’t have to pay for Gavin Newsom’s folly.

By the way, this is a “low-interest loan.” Anyone want to take a bet on whether it will ever be repaid?

5) Speaking of Santa Claus: Get a Load of THIS Sweetheart Deal

The state and local employee unions complain they aren’t treated fairly (see item 1 above), but our economic wizard EJ Antoni has just analyzed the latest data on how much MORE government workers are paid than comparable private sector worker.

The cost of a state or local government employee is 41.7% higher than a private sector employee. Wages and salaries are 24.4% higher for these government workers than their private sector counterparts, but the big difference is benefits, which are a whopping 83.0% higher for public sector workers.
