Friend – Big news: Last week, the EPA proposed banning most uses of chlorpyrifos, a toxic pesticide linked to severe brain damage in children. This is a critical step forward in an ongoing saga. Many studies show that chlorpyrifos can damage the nervous system, including a child’s developing brain, even in small doses. It’s so harmful that the EPA attempted to ban its use not only on American crops but on imported crops too. While Europe has banned its use on food crops for years, the U.S. has been slower to act. For close to two decades, public health advocates have fought to ban chlorpyrifos, but the pesticide industry has consistently blocked progress. Just last year the EPA pushed to prohibit all uses of the crop chemical on food, but a federal court scrapped the ban. Now, the EPA is taking a bold step to limit its use – but with exceptions. EWG is resolved to continue this fight until all our food is free from chlorpyrifos. The EPA’s proposal is a great start, but we need your voice to ensure the ban is strengthened and enforced. Can we count on you to help us take action? |
We must act fast. With your input, we’ll formulate our next steps to eliminate chlorpyrifos once and for all. Thanks for standing with us, friend. EWG |
