Dear John,

Do you remember where you were on July 22 of this year – the hottest day in world history? A record-hot day in what we now know is a record-hot year.

We can feel our climate changing. The toll this takes on us is not just economic, but personal – altering the lives of our families, friends and neighbors. Conditions around the world may get worse before they get better.

*But they can get better. That's why WRI is working with countries and partners all over the world to drive bigger and faster results for people, nature and climate.*

In Indonesia, we're working with the government to train auto mechanics to convert more than 50,000 gas-powered motorcycles to electric. To do that, we're partnering with a local company on workforce training and business development – that way, we can help spur demand and build a talent pipeline that will enable a sustainable market for electric vehicle conversion at scale. Not only does this lower emissions and create good jobs in the clean energy economy, it also makes the air cleaner for everyone in the city.

*Progress is possible. Will you join us to help make it happen? ( [link removed] )*

Progress means significant reductions in tree cover loss this year — by more than a third in Brazil and nearly half in Colombia. Our Global Forest Watch program produced essential evidence for understanding and tackling this problem.

Progress looks like countries agreeing to provide $300 billion in climate finance at November’s UN climate summit – a critical downpayment for the developing world and a new launchpad for far more investment that is desperately needed. Our team were key players throughout the summit — shaping outcomes by engaging negotiators, hosting events, publishing research and communicating with media.

Progress looks like $126 billion in private investments for electric vehicle and battery manufacturing in the US since the enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. For years, WRI has worked with stakeholders across this sector to speed up the equitable adoption of EVs and ensure that they are powered with clean and reliable electricity.

*WRI is building the relationships, delivering the data and championing the initiatives that enable this change. We’re poised to keep doing it, even as new challenges arise. You can be a key part of this work.*

John, you understand the importance of the evidence-based and ambitious initiatives that WRI and our partners are taking on to create a more just and sustainable world. As a champion for sustainability, you are hugely important to this collective effort. *I’m asking you to donate today so that we don’t just sustain our momentum—we accelerate it. ( [link removed] )*
