Our brilliant buses continue to go from strength to strength

New data from the Department for Transport, released recently [ [link removed] ] has revealed that Nottingham’s bus network is continuing to go from strength-to-strength post-covid.

Nottingham saw a 10% rise in passenger figures versus 2023 – an incredible feat for a city which has had a strong and popular bus network for decades.

Nottingham City Council work with all of the bus companies in the city, including the Council-owned Nottingham City Transport, to ensure that our buses are modern, reliable and green as well as planning future improvements.

If you're planning to come into the city:


* travel by public transport or active travel if possible, or consider park and ride
* If you must drive, expect roads and car parks to be busy

Improvements on St Ann's Well Road complete

Works are now complete on a project to create a safe segregated cycling route and make wider improvements to junctions, footpaths and pedestrian crossing facilities along St Ann’s Well Road.

This scheme was delivered using grant funding which Nottingham City Council successful bid for from Active Travel England’s ‘Active Travel Fund’ . Active Travel England is the government’s executive agency responsible for making walking, wheeling and cycling the preferred choice for everyone to get around in England.

In total £2.55m of external funding was used to complete this project.

The improvements delivered by this project include:


* Changes to the layout of junctions to improve safety for all.
* Newly resurfaced footpaths
* Upgraded traffic calming features to reduce vehicle speeds and keep everyone safe – by reinstating and improving raised pedestrian crossings which had become damaged over time
* A new segregated cycle lane built to modern standards

Local business on the road to net zero after grant from our Workplace Travel Service team

Nottingham-based print company John E Wright go greener with a grant from Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service

Successful locally-founded business John E Wright & Company [ [link removed] ] who specialise in signage and large format print, are strengthening Nottingham's green credentials by charting a course to become carbon neutral by 2030.

A grant from Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service will supercharge their efforts, allowing John E Wright to initially install five EV chargers at their NG2 site in readiness for a rollout of electric vans.

John E Wright first applied for a grant online, before speaking with Peter Saunders who oversees the Workplace Travel Service project.

Alan Edwards, Technical Director at John E Wright said “The application process was a breeze and was helped in all aspects along the route by Peter – twice!”

“The 5 new EV chargers mean that our Nottingham HQ is now ready for the rollout of electric vans. Getting a large contribution to the installation costs via the Workplace Travel Service has been really helpful.”

Following a review of the application by the Workplace Travel Service panel, 2 grants totalling £25,000 were awarded. John E Wright paid 25% of the cost, plus VAT, with the remaining 75% coming from the Government’s Local Transport Plan and Nottingham’s Workplace Parking Levy, which means businesses and organisations in Nottingham are supported with sustainable workplace travel improvements at no cost to the Council.

New £3 bus fare cap coming in from 1 January

Nottingham City Transport have confirmed they will take part in the Government's updated bus fare cap of £3.

For customers making two or more journeys a day in the City Zone, an All Day Ticket offers better value at £5.30.

Discounted festive bus tickets

From Saturday 21 December 2024 until Sunday 5 January 2025, NCT and other local bus operators will offer reduced price group tickets thanks to our joint Bus Service Improvement plan with Nottinghamshire County Council. 

NCTs Grouprider will be reduced from £8.50 to £6.00 and Network Grouprider will be reduced from £12.50 to £9.00.

Council awards new bus-shelter contract
JCDecaux

Nottingham City Council has awarded JCDecaux UK a 15-year bus shelter and free-standing digital advertising contract following a competitive tender.

The contract will provide the authority with income from digital advertising screens, as well as a refurbishment of all 800 bus shelters across the city and the introduction of smart technology benefits like free public Wi-Fi and real-time air quality monitoring.

The shelters will be rebranded in the city’s ‘Robin Hood Network’ livery and will include energy-efficient LED lighting helping to work towards the city’s carbon-neutral goals.

Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan, said it was important that the shelters are well maintain for passengers and added that the contract will also bring in advertising revenue for the council.
