John,

Food & Water Action and supporters like you have been pressuring members of Congress and governors across the country to guarantee access to clean, affordable water in the midst of this pandemic by stopping water shutoffs.

And your messages are working!

Last Friday, the House passed a new stimulus bill that includes a national moratorium on water shutoffs and $1.5 billion for low-income water aid. While there are significant problems with other aspects of the HEROES Act, the water service elements of the bill are outstanding and necessary.

Now is the time for us to keep the pressure on and make sure the Senate does its job by keeping the water shutoff moratorium in any final bill — so everyone can have access to affordable, clean water.

Urge your senators to protect public health by passing a national moratorium on water shutoffs now.

Water shutoffs are unconscionable. But utilities continue to shut off the water in households across the country — even when everyone needs running water to wash their hands to help stay safe from COVID-19. The ability to pay water bills should not determine someone’s risk of contracting COVID-19.

We need to make it clear that the next stimulus package must impose a moratorium on all water shutoffs, provide funding to restore water service, and help ensure that every person has access to safe, clean water.

We all have a right to clean water — and now it impacts the health and safety of our communities. It's time to guarantee everyone has access to clean, safe water. Send your message now: Urge your senators to act in the public’s best interest and pass a national moratorium on water shutoffs.
