Friend,
Even before the last few months, people across the country recognized that the fossil-fuel run status quo wasn't working for our communities or our planet. While "normal" worked for a few, it didn't work for the many.
Now, it's never been more clear that we need an all-out national mobilization to defeat the climate crisis. We need to create millions of jobs in a just and inclusive clean energy economy.
While I'm thrilled that this message is resonating so widely with both the public and the press, I can't say I'm surprised.
We don't measure our success by the number of headlines (or even by the wonderful tweets from national supporters like Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Jeff Merkley), though. Already, hundreds of Americans have joined Evergreen Action for our first action, calling on congressional Democrats to prioritize clean energy investments and infrastructure in the current round of stimulus spending. Retooling our economy to run on clean energy will create long-lasting, good-paying jobs, and any stimulus package without it is missing a major opportunity to put Americans back to work in the future of industry.
The team and I are already planning more actions we can take together soon to fight for the future we need. In the meantime, I hope you'll follow Evergreen Action on social media so you can find out about upcoming actions -- and need-to-know climate news -- right away.
Climate change is no longer just a graph on a UN report or a problem for the future. It is a crisis right now, hurting real people and communities all across America. We can't defeat the climate crisis with tweets and Facebook posts alone, but we can -- and will -- defeat it by building a diverse movement toward a positive, inclusive, and economically just vision for our shared future.
The work's already begun.
Thanks for being a part of it,
Jamal Raad
