According to Democratic staffers quoted in the article, Mast is expected to focus on divisive culture war issues and that his previous incendiary statements on Palestine will make it difficult to get bipartisan work done.
While we hope that Democrats in Congress, especially those on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and in the House Progressive Caucus, will refrain from working with Congressman Mast as he works to implement Trump’s MAGA foreign policy agenda, the last year gives us reason to doubt this…
Sadly, at least 28 members of the House Progressive Caucus (HPC), Congress’s supposed left-most faction, have taken money from the right-wing American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) while it is actively working to unseat their HPC colleagues like Andy Levin and Jamaal Bowman. On top of this atleast 55 of the HPC’s 96 members have voted with the GOP to send Israel weapons - long after it became clear to the world that Israel has been carrying out genocide.
Why can we be fairly certain that these AIPAC funded “progressives” will side with Brian Mast and MAGA when push comes to shove? Because the massive donations they received from AIPAC come with this string attached: side with us on Israel votes, or else.
