With Donald Trump’s inauguration approaching, the time for having an honest conversation about where the Democratic Party goes from here starts now.
Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Greg Casar — the current and incoming chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus — have urged Democratic candidates running for DNC chair to embrace big, bold and transformative changes.
This would include banning corporate PAC donations and super PAC spending in Democratic primaries.
And they're right, John. While there are many reasons that factored into Democrats' losses this year, chief among them: the party lost the same working-class people and communities that have long made up an essential component of the Democratic base.
It’s not that the GOP offers the working class a better way forward (in short, they don’t), but for far too long, the Democratic Party has become entrenched with the corporate and billionaire bad actors profiting off the backs of the rest of us.
Make no mistake: Democrats trying to be ‘Republican lite’ is a losing strategy, and it was put on full display this year.
That’s why Justice Democrats are working hard to ensure that the next DNC chair prioritizes rebuilding the multiracial, diverse, and working-class base that has powered Democratic victories in the past — and will in the future.
