HAPPENING NOW: McDonald's workers striking
Join the #WalkoutWednesday virtual strike >>
John,
Today, I'm walking out of my job at McDonald's because I refuse to die for their bottom line.
Walking off the job isn't nearly as scary as being at the drive through window in the middle of a pandemic. There's no "social distancing" in a cramped kitchen. And I'm terrified of getting sick and passing COVID-19 to my kids.
McDonald's isn't doing nearly enough to protect me and my coworkers – that's why we're out here to demand Personal Protective Equipment, sick leave, and hazard pay.
McDonald's annual shareholders meeting is tomorrow. As they count up their billions, they need to hear from US, too.
Stand with me and everyone going on strike today by joining the virtual strike livestream.

McDonald's has proven they are one of the absolute worst corporations in America at protecting and supporting workers. Coronavirus is most deadly for Black and Brown communities – and instead of going out of their way to protect workers like us – this is what McDonald's did:
- McDonald's lobbied the White House to classify fast-food restaurants as "essential" in order to continue to spend millions on dividends to investors
- McDonald's failed to supply all workers with protective equipment, despite warnings from health professionals, despite the fact that we're in close quarters, and despite the fact that we're face to face with customers every day and preparing everyone's food
- McDonald's has refused to offer sick leave and hazard pay to all employees and actively lobbied Donald Trump to weaken sick leave provisions in aid federal relief packages
How many people have to die before essential workers like us are heard? How long are we going to allow our lives to be put in danger for McDonald's profit?
Today's strikes in cities across America are sending a powerful message that every single person deserves basic protections from coronavirus.

We know striking works. McDonald's workers from LA to Chicago have already won concessions to keep us safe by walking off the job. And by fighting for $15, we've won $70 billion in raises for over 24 million people across the country.
The only way to win is together. Fight on.
