Get into the Christmas spirit and support young carers by downloading the single now! | | You can find out more about the story behind ‘Love is Enough’ here: | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 2 mins | | | What an incredible year - thank you for making it possible, John! | It’s been a historic year for our party, John. With your help, we achieved our best result in our General Election history, electing 72 MPs - more than any third party in the past century.
And we’ve won at all levels, winning over 500 councillors and 12 councils across England, plus two seats on the London Assembly, in May.
But this is just the beginning. With local elections coming up this spring, Welsh Senedd and Scottish Holyrood elections in 2026, and another General Election in just four years' time, we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
Next year, we’ll continue to deliver on our mandate to fight for local communities and be a constructive opposition in Parliament.
We’d love to have you be a part of it - so will you become a Member of the Liberal Democrats today, John?
By joining, you’ll not only help us achieve even more success in 2025, you’ll also get access to exclusive events and training, the ability to vote on future policy, and much more. | | | | Shocking waiting times for NHS diagnostic tests | New research by the Liberal Democrats has found that the number of people waiting over six weeks for diagnostic checks has skyrocketed 23-fold in less than a decade to 364,000.
These include vital tests and scans for diseases like cancer, where delays can turn treatable illnesses into incurable ones. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 5 mins | If the Government is to fix the NHS, it must tackle these sky-high waiting lists. Any targets on time for treatment are worthless if people can’t get diagnosed in the first place.
Please share our research on social media to pressure the Government to take action: | | | | 6,000 crimes unsolved every day last year | The Conservatives’ legacy of failure on crime means thousands of victims are being left without justice every single day.
Our research sheds further light on the situation - police are failing to solve three in every four burglaries.
Years of ineffective resourcing from the last Conservative Government has stretched the police to the limit. Now, thousands of victims are going without the justice they deserve. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 3 mins | | Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home, John.
We’re calling on the government to deliver a return to proper community policing, and a Burglary Response Guarantee, to ensure all home burglaries are attended by police and properly investigated. | | | | Promising progress for Danny Chamber MP’s Animal Welfare Bill | Danny Chamber MP’s Private Member’s Bill to end the cruel trade in puppy smuggling got a promising boost when the Government announced its support.
The Bill will ban the import of puppies and kittens under six months old, as well as mutilated or heavily pregnant dogs and cats. It will also close loopholes that smugglers currently exploit to import animals for sale under the guise of pets travelling with their owners.
This not only protects animals from abuse, but also protects public health, stopping the smuggling of animals carrying diseases. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 2 mins | | Lib Dems at Liberal International Congress in Santiago | Liberal International (LI) is a federation of liberal and progressive democratic political parties from across the world. Numerous Lib Dems were elected to LI positions at the recent Liberal International Congress in Santiago, Chile: | - Phil Bennion - re-elected to the LI Bureau (equivalent to our Federal Board).
- Sal Brinton - elected as Chair of the Human Rights Committee. This is a crucial position given LI’s role as an NGO - it often speaks at the UN Human Rights Council, works with other NGOs globally, and awards the Annual Liberal prize for Freedom.
- Pippa Heylings MP - elected to the LI Climate Justice Committee.
- Bobby Dean MP - elected to the LI Trade Justice Committee.
| These positions place us at the heart of international liberal politics, giving us a platform to push liberal policies worldwide.
Thank you to everyone involved and special thanks to David Chalmers who worked tirelessly to make it happen. | | | It’s been another great month of council by-elections for the Lib Dems, as we held a seat in South Oxfordshire, with a huge swing, and in Barnsley, where we saw off Reform with over double their vote!
Congratulations to those elected and thank you to everyone else who stood but didn’t win this time. | | | Work for Us | We’ve got a wide variety of vacancies - both paid and voluntary - currently available. If you’re keen to contribute in whatever capacity suits you best, we’d love to hear from you! | | | To everyone celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, or another holiday this December, we hope you and your loved ones have a time full of joy, kindness, and hope - and we wish everybody a very happy, healthy and successful 2025!
Best wishes, | | Liberal Democrats | | | | |
