VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump pulls shock move in court
The MAGA cult leader took time out of his very busy presidential transition schedule to sue a pollster and newspaper in Des Moines, Iowa, for a poll he didn't like prior to the election. Seriously. Trump's vindictiveness has very little to due with polling in Iowa, of course. These actions are designed to scare the mainstream media into obsequence when his wrecking ball of second term actually gets under way.

Republican senator says RFK Jr. assured him he and Trump have an "agreement" on abortion
The upper chamber's brightest luminary, former football coach Tommy Tuberville, spoke with reporters yesterday and assured uneasy Republicans that RFK Jr.'s lifelong-held views on protecting women's reproductive health would not get in the way of advancing Donald Trump and the GOP's draconian, all-out assault on abortion at the federal level. Tuberville was asked how his meeting went and he eloquently replied, "It went good. Very positive. He’s upbeat. He is not much older than me, so he’s got a lot more knowledge than I do." Enlightening! The sentient jock strap from Alabama went on to claim that Kennedy, if confirmed as secretary of Health & Human Services, promised to back Trump "100%" on invading women's privacy and stripping away their bodily autonomy whenever and wherever possible. Glad we got that cleared up!

Trump plots disastrous Day 1 attack on Biden legacy
350.org: A new POLITICO report shows that Donald Trump is planning to revive the destructive Keystone XL pipeline project as soon as he gets back into office — even though no companies are trying to build it anymore! This kind of short-sighted nihilism is exactly what we can expect from a Trump administration intent on extracting every last drop of profit out of the land, no matter how many people get hurt or how much permanent damage is done — which is why we need to start fighting back ASAP! Will you add your name to let him Trump know we won’t stand for the revival of the Keystone XL pipeline or the rest of his destructive, regressive fossil fuel agenda?
House leadership rebuffs younger generation of Democrats yet again, elevating 74-year-old rep fighting throat cancer over AOC
Defense industry darling Rep. Gerry Connolly won the vote for the powerful Oversight chair position over rising star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a 131-84 vote that was influenced by a backroom pressure campaign by 84-year-old Nancy Pelosi, pulling the strings from a hospital bed where she is recovering from a hip replacement. Nothing says "we've learned nothing from the past election" like thumbing the nose at one of the party's most dynamic and popular communicators in order to buttress the ineffectual establishment. Will Connolly, who is undergoing chemotherapy for esophogeal cancer, have the stamina and fortitude to hold Trump and the GOP accountable on the Oversight Committee? Apparently "seniority" and the "the sense that it was his turn" were more important to House Democrats.

Trump’s so "handsome" you "can’t honey-trap him," says Fox News dude Jesse Watters
1950s fanboy and guy clearly in need of a few more childhood hugs from dad Jesse Watters weirdly complained just a few weeks ago that men should never take bubble baths because it isn't manly. Or something. Fast forward to last night, where the diet Tucker Carlson telepromt reader procaimed that Donald Trump is so "handsome" you cannot "honey-trap" him. Pretty sure Watters is trying to disprove that theory, but what do we know?

Mike Johnson presents budget with — surprise! — pay raises for Congress
After over a year of budgetary can-kicking, House and Senate leaders have finally agreed to the terms of a three-month continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government and...continue kicking the can down the road. The bill is a "Christmas stocking of legislative goodies," according to Punchbowl, that just so happens to include PAY RAISES for Congress. No increase in the federal minimum wage, of course, which hasn't been raised in 15 years. The bill also includes stuff like money for a new football stadium in Washington DC, billions for farmers and hurricane relief, and the American Music Tourism Act. Naturally, the House Freedom Caucus is furious (SPENDING? BAD!), Elon Musk doesn't like it (who the hell asked him?), and apparently Johnson is losing support for his speakership bid next year since he promised that he wouldn't engage in this kind of horse-trading to get bills passed. Oh, and they have until Friday night to get it passed, and it's not scheduled to be put on the floor until Thursday...so have fun with that, Mike.

Gaza v. Blinken: Palestinians sue Secretary of State over "failure" to follow US law on sending military aid to Israel
Palestinians and Palestinian-Americans filed a federal lawsuit against Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, accusing him and his department of failing to implement a law that prohibits the US from sending military aid to foreign security forces committing gross violations of human rights. "For too long, the State Department has acted as if there’s an ‘Israel exemption' from the Leahy Law, despite the fact that Congress required it to apply the law to every country in the world. As a result, millions of Palestinians have suffered unimaginable, horrific abuses by Israeli forces using US weapons,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, executive director of Democracy for the Arab World Now. The lawsuit alleges that Blinken's State Department created "distinct processes" to avoid enforcing the law on Israel in order to avoid accountability for crimes including torture; prolonged detention without charge; forced disappearance; genocide; indiscriminate and deliberate killings; and deprivation of food, water, fuel, and medicine. Their evidence comes in part from the State Department's own reports on Israeli crimes that Blinken chose to simply ignore.
ICE deports mother and children, including newborn twins, to Mexico
Federico Arellano Jr., a US citizen, saw his wife, Christina Salazar, and their four children be taken into custody on December 11, just three months after Salazar had given birth to their twins — also US citizens — in Houston. Salazar, 23, and her children were put on a plane at Houston’s George Bush airport bound for Reynosa, Mexico — a place where they had no contacts and no way of getting money, according to the family’s lawyers. Lawyers also said it was cold the night Salazar and her children were detained and they were not allowed to get their coats. By birthright citizenship under US law, the twins are US citizens since they were born within the country and at least one of their parents is a citizen. Brace yourselves, folks. Biden is still (technically) president, and this is just a preview of what's to come. There will be many more heartbreaking stories like this once Trump actually takes office.
US to pay $116 million settlement over rampant sexual abuse at California women's prison
The US government will pay nearly $116 million to resolve lawsuits brought by more than 100 women who say they were abused or mistreated at a now-shuttered federal prison in California that was known as the "rape club" because of rampant staff-on-inmate sexual misconduct. Tuesday's settlements cover an initial wave of lawsuits seeking monetary compensation from the Bureau of Prisons after former warden Ray Garcia and other employees at FCI Dublin went to prison for sexually abusing inmates. Subsequent lawsuits have yet to be resolved.
Coal use to reach new peak in — and remain at near-record levels for years
The world’s coal use is expected to reach a fresh high of 8.7 billion metric tons this year, and remain at near-record levels for years as a result of a global gas crisis triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. For those keeping score at home, 2024 is also on pace to be the hottest year in recorded history. Bang up job we're doing with the ONLY INHABITABLE planet we all share here.
