Countless dogs, cats and other animals nationwide will be left vulnerable this holiday season, facing horrific things like cruelty, abuse, neglect, hunger and homelessness – waiting for someone to hear their cries for help.

When we first met Lemon, she was one of these animals.

We’re about to tell you Lemon’s story, but first we have to ask: please, donate today and help make this a season of second chances for all of the animals in need this holiday.

In February, Lemon was one of over 90 maltreated dogs rescued from filthy conditions on a property in New Jersey.

The dogs were found living among their own feces and urine and exposed to high levels of ammonia. Many were underweight and had untreated medical conditions, including Lemon.

With help from the generosity of ASPCA supporters like you, these dogs were brought to our Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC) to receive medical and behavioral care after their rescue.

For Lemon, it was not a moment too soon.

Lemon’s right eye was ruptured and extremely painful – likely due to trauma. She was also underweight with overgrown nails and intestinal parasites. Given the progressive condition and severe pain of her eye, Lemon’s only treatment option was to remove the eye as quickly as possible.

Because of compassionate people like you, our teams can be there for animals like Lemon, who went on to recover and is now experiencing her very first holiday in a loving home.

But sadly, there are still countless animals enduring cruelty and neglect nationwide – living in fear and wondering what they did to deserve this.

Please, donate to help them right now.
