Email from Zionist Organization of America   ZIONIST ORGANIZATION OF AMERICA NEWS RELEASE ZOA Condemns the Outrageously Fraudulent, Anti-Israel U.S. House Letter Signed by 77 Democrats Possibly Stopping Arms to Israel Today, The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) condemned the 77 U.S. House Democrats who signed onto a ridiculously biased and false Congressional letter that accused Israel of violating U.S. arms sales law and of failing to rectify issues, a situation that could trigger the suspension of offensive arms sales to Israel during a vicious war conducted by an Islamist terror group, Hamas, against it. Seventy-seven House Democrats have signed on to this dishonest new letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, rejecting the Biden administrations’ determination that Israel remains in compliance with U.S. arms sales laws, and urging the Biden administration to conduct a “full assessment” of whether there are grounds to impose a partial arms embargo against Israel. In the letter, the anti-Israel Democrats claimed that they were troubled by the continued level of civilian casualties and the humanitarian suffering in Gaza. They also accused Israel of failing to meet the requirements the U.S. outlined for delivery of humanitarian aid. But these anti-Israel claims are totally baseless. The number of civilian casualties in Gaza has been unprecedently low compared to other wars - In the current war, the estimated civilian to combatant ratio is 1 civilian killed for each combatant—- according to various military sources, most notably, Richard Kemp, former head of British forces in Afghanistan. This ratio is unprecedented in the history of modern warfare. (It is more typically 7 to 9 civilian deaths to one killed combatant.) IDF conduct is especially impressive given that the terrorists fight from school yards, hospitals, mosques and crowded residential neighborhoods. When Gazans have evacuated areas in response to IDF warnings (phone calls, leaflets, social media posts), Hamas has at times forced their own people back into target areas at gunpoint. And a new study shows Hamas claims of civilian deaths are way overstated. Further, any problems with the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian Arab civilians is the fault of the United Nations’ grossly incompetent failure to distribute aid, and by the despicable actions of a U.S. designated terror group, Hamas, and other corrupt armed gangs’ seizure of that aid, to sell on the black market. The leading sponsors of this letter were U.S. Reps. Jason Crow (CO), Madeleine Dean (PA), and Chrissy Houlahan (PA). Other prominent signatories include Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT), Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (MD), Rules Committee Ranking Member Jim McGovern (D-MA), Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar (TX), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Sara Jacobs (CA), Seth Magaziner (RI), Jan Schakowsky (IL), Becca Balint (VT), Steve Cohen (TN), Susan Wild (PA) and Jerry Nadler (NY). The far-left, extremist, anti-Israel organization J Street has backed this letter. ZOA, once again, calls upon all other Jewish groups to exclude J Street from the organized Jewish community for their consistent dangerous hostility to the Jewish State. ZOA National President Morton A. Klein stated: “It is despicable and outrageous that 77 House Democrats, including a large number of American Jewish Congressmen, evidently believe this antisemitic propaganda, and are willing to block arms sales to Israel in the middle of an existential war against Israel and the Jewish people. Their disgraceful actions could lead to the death of more Jews and a further rise in antisemitism, both worldwide and in the U.S. "As they must know, Israel has actually gone out of its way to protect Palestinian Arab civilians in this conflict, and this has, in fact, led to the deaths of more Israeli soldiers, while Hamas has done its best to kill and terrorize its own civilians. For these 77 Congressmen to not acknowledge the clear truth of this situation, is beyond shameful. J Street's endorsement of the letter proves once and for all that they are not 'pro-Israel.' Cutting off the deliveries of weapons while Israelis are engaged in combat is absolute proof that J Street is on the wrong side, and are working against the interests of the Jewish people.” ZOA Director of Government Relations Dan Pollak said: "Democratic House members who signed this letter cannot hide behind the first paragraph of the letter, which makes the point that Israel has a right to defend itself, and that Hamas’ terrorist attack was brutal. Saying that Israel is allowed to defend itself while calling for a review of arms shipments to the world's only Jewish State has become the calling card of unserious people in several countries. ZOA regrets that so many Democratic members of Congress have joined the anti-Israel chorus. We call on members of both the House and Senate to literally stand up for Israel's moral obligation to defend itself and deliver the weapons Israel needs to defend the whole world from Iranian-sponsored Arab/Islamist terrorists."
