As winter (or summer, if you live in the southern hemisphere) and the
end of the year draw ever closer, many of us find ourselves reflecting
on the past eleven months, myself included. For this issue of the
Free Software Bulletin, we wanted to revisit the Free Software
Foundation's (FSF) organizational history; talk about some of the
challenges that we've been encountering on a regular basis; and how
important it is that our societies respect user freedom at every
level. Every year since 2002 (and if you count the GNU
Bulletin, the predecessor of this periodical, even since 1986!),
we've published a compilation of articles discussing free software
issues, why we use and love free software, and how you can participate
in the movement in our biannual newsletter, the Free Software
Bulletin. We're happy to announce that our forty-fifth issue, the
Fall 2024 edition, of the Free Software Bulletin is now
available online for you and everyone who cares about to freedom to
read, talk about, and share over email and microblog.
In the forty-fifth edition of the Free Software Bulletin, you can
read about:
A few weeks prior to this online publication of the Bulletin, we
sent out a printed version to free software supporters worldwide. If
you received the printed magazine in the mail, please let us know when
it arrived and help get the word out by sharing a picture of your copy
with the hashtag #FSFBulletin! We love seeing how far the Free
Software Bulletin travels and the impact free software has on
people's lives around the globe. We encourage you to share your copy
with friends and neighbors, leaving it out for visitors to read, or
talking to your family members about your experience with free
software.
We know not everyone is in a position to, but if you can, can you
support our efforts by making a donation? Or, an associate
membership is a great show of support we can rely on, and an annual
FSF associate membership translates to a mere $2.69 USD per week,
or $0.38 USD per day! We need more resources to continue to build a
better digital world. Associate members will also be able to enjoy all
the associate member benefits. Will you help us reach our
year-end fundraising goal of $400,000 USD this year-end? If you
join as a member this period, we'll send you a set of five unique
postcards to help you promote computer user freedom.
We hope you enjoy reading the Bulletin as much as we enjoyed putting
it together, and that it will provide a few ideas on how to get more
involved in advocating for free software and bringing more people into
the movement.
Happy hacking!
