Dear John,
Managing Director Mars Rodriguez has been a vital part of Central Texas organizing since they were a teenager. Growing up in a working-class home, they came to political work in 2016 understanding that in order for people’s lives to improve, we must organize to make it happen. From the start, Mars has impressed their peers with their dedication, passion, and natural talent for political organizing.
When Ground Game Texas decided to hire a managing director earlier this year, we were lucky to be able to offer the position to Mars. As managing director, they provide a mix of strategic oversight and hands-on management, overseeing operations across various departments, campaigns, and programs.
This year, Mars also brought their experience to supporting our partners in Amarillo. Ground Game Texas was proud to work with the Amarillo Reproductive Freedom Alliance, or ARFA, to shut down a dangerous, astroturfed ballot initiative that would have banned anyone from traveling through the city to get an abortion out of state.
The victory was not only significant for Amarillo, but also for reproductive justice across the country. The ban would have been one of the most severe restrictions on abortion anywhere in the US, and would have set a dangerous precedent. Instead, it suffered a resounding defeat, with 59% of the city’s residents voting it down.
Ground Game Texas is proud of the strides we’ve made in the past year, and the team we have built. Your support has made it possible for us to expand our team as well as our reach throughout the state. Mars’s work defending reproductive freedom could not have been done without your help. Your continued investment in our work will allow us to reach even greater heights in 2025.
