Washington, DC -Today, Congressman Van Drew shared details about a public meeting hosted by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) on December 18th, 2024, at 10 a.m. This meeting, which will be open to the public and available for live stream viewing, will be discussing and voting on several issues, including Atlantic City Electric's (ACE) request for an 8% rate hike for all utility consumers.
"South Jerseyans are already struggling with record-high utility rates, and this hike will only make things worse," said Congressman Van Drew. "Instead of trying to alleviate this burden, these funds would go toward unnecessary infrastructure upgrades like electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. To make matters worse, the NJBPU will also be pushing to increase subsidies for offshore wind despite widespread public opposition. Governor Murphy and the NJBPU continue to ignore the real needs of the people and instead spend taxpayer dollars to push an agenda that nobody wants. While public participation will not be allowed, attendance at this meeting, either in person or online, will show the NJBPU just how pressing this issue is to the people of South Jersey."
