WHO: Governor Jim Justice, First Lady Cathy Justice, Cabinet Secretary of Arts, Culture, and History Randall Reid-Smith, West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Michele Blatt, Former Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Paine, Owner of Ultimate Canine LLC Julie Case, Cabell County Schools Superintendent Tim Hardesty, Huntington East Middle School Principal Don Pennington, Cabell County Schools board members, local officials.

WHAT: First Lady Cathy Justice will introduce Bear, a male Golden Retriever, the 45th therapy dog to be placed as part of her Friends With Paws initiative.

WHEN: Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Huntington East Middle School
1 Campbell Drive, Huntington, WV 25705
The Friends With Paws program ([link removed]) is a partnership between the Governor’s Office, West Virginia Communities In Schools Nonprofit, and the West Virginia Department of Education. Therapy dogs will be placed in CIS program schools where students are disproportionately affected by poverty, substance misuse, or other at-risk situations, and are in the greatest need of a support animal. The dogs will serve as a healthy and friendly outlet for these students to address trauma and other social-emotional issues.
