On the heels of our recent monumental election, DRA’s work to protect the rights of Americans with disabilities is more important than ever. No one can know what the next four years will bring. But with your support, we can promise that DRA will be there to enforce the law to protect access to healthcare, voting rights, education, and the list goes on. Americans with disabilities need DRA more than ever before. Donate today to fuel DRA’s ongoing fight for equity and inclusivity.
DRA’s work is not for the faint of heart. The average lifespan of a DRA case is four years, and we must fight longer and harder than ever before in our 31-year history. And demand for our work, especially by those who are multiply marginalized, is higher than ever: over 50% of our clients are people of color and 83% are low-income. We urgently need your support to ensure we can continue taking on these critical high-impact, resource-intensive cases protecting the rights of Americans with disabilities.
When you invest in DRA, our team produces results. In the last year, among other victories DRA:
Obtained a court ruling that the Tennessee Department of Correction violated federal law by failing to provide sign language interpreters and videophones to Deaf prisoners.
Achieved a settlement with the City of Berkeley to improve accessibility for City Commission and board members with disabilities.
Secured a crucial class action settlement that protects San Diego residents who rely on their vehicles as their only form of shelter from unjust enforcement and fines; this set a major precedent for addressing the needs of unhoused individuals in urban areas.
Obtained a court ruling to ensure all new, New York City taxis are wheelchair-accessible until at least 50% of all taxis are accessible.
These are only a few examples of DRA putting your dollars to work so that people with disabilities can equally participate in society.
