The destruction of residential buildings in Ukraine has left many without safe shelter. And targeted damage to critical heating infrastructure further threatens people’s ability to make it through the harsh season.

Nina, a Kherson resident whose apartment building was damaged by an attack, shared with us:

"It's cold, very cold in the apartment. I'm dressed like this, sleeping, piling on even more layers, under three blankets because it's very cold. Especially at night, when you get up, it's as cold outside as it is inside."

This winter, the IRC is providing cash assistance to highly vulnerable households in eastern Ukraine, so they can purchase heating supplies for their homes, such as gas stoves and power banks, as well as warm blankets, coats and other winter gear.
