Hi John,
The UK government wants to know our views on the harm that North Sea oil and gas does to our climate.
We’ve got until 8 January to let them know loud and clear that they should stop new drilling – this is our chance to make a difference. Can you add your name to the petition now?

The first step to turning the corner on the climate crisis is to stop making the problem worse. We need to leave fossil fuels in the ground, and that must start in countries like the UK with a long history of fossil fuel extraction. It’s the crucial first pillar of the international campaign for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. (1)
Earlier this year campaigners won a major victory when the Supreme Court ruled that emissions from burning fossil fuels must be considered when deciding on new projects to extract oil and gas. It sounds ridiculous, but previously they haven’t been included! (2)
Since then, the government has paused decisions on new oil and gas licences in the North Sea, and now they’re running a public consultation asking for views. Along with the Stop Rosebank campaign and others, we want to mobilise a huge petition to show the government that the public wants an end to oil and gas in the North Sea. It’s time to stand up and be counted.
We’ve only got a short time to make our voices heard. Can you add your name now?

Of course, we can’t stop new oil and gas without having an impact on workers, supply chains and communities. That’s why we’re also calling for the government to invest in a just transition, to support good quality jobs that don’t cost the earth, and support for communities going through that change. (3)
We have a real opportunity right now to push the UK government to take a lead on global climate justice. We know the fossil fuel industry will fight to protect its profits – so we need to take this opportunity to make a difference.
Please join me in signing the petition to the prime minister today.
