New York judge refuses to throw out Donald Trump's porn star hush money conviction
Amidst all the acquiescence, sane-washing, and ring-kissing playing out across the country, it's nice to know someone is sticking to principles of law and some semblance of accountability. Let's hope New York Judge Juan Merchan can withstand the withering pressure campaign Trump and his MAGA mob will continue to unleash on him and ensure that Donald, once all appeals are exhausted, becomes the first convicted felon to serve as US president — a distinction he has done quite literally everything to "earn."

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump issues dangerous legal threat
The MAGA cult leader, emboldened by ABC News' cowardly capitulation in a bullshit $15 million defamation suit, doubled down on plans to launch a defamation lawsuit spree, targeting newspapers, media outlets, social media influencers, and also that one guy on Twitter who said, like, really mean stuff about him that one time.

Three dead in private Christian school shooting in Wisconsin, 15-year-old female shooter identified
A 15-year-old student killed a teacher and another teenager with a handgun Monday at a Christian school in Wisconsin, terrifying classmates including a second grader who made the 911 call that sent dozens of police officers rushing to the small school just a week before its Christmas break. The female shooter, who was identified at a press conference Monday night, also wounded six others at a study hall at Abundant Life Christian School, including two students who were in critical condition, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said. A teacher and three students had been taken to a hospital with less serious injuries, and two of them had been released by Monday evening. Yesterday's tragedy marks the 488th mass shooting of 2024 in the United States, according to Gun Violence Archive.

FBI addresses mystery lights over East Coast as public warned not to shoot them down
The FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) have released a joint statement on the spate of drone sightings over the East Coast states of New Jersey and New York in recent weeks, bowing to growing public demands for an explanation. “Having closely examined the technical data and tips from concerned citizens, we assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and stars mistakenly reported as drones,” the federal agencies said. “We have not identified anything anomalous and do not assess the activity to date to present a national security or public safety risk over the civilian airspace in New Jersey or other states in the northeast.” Occam's razor, y'all.

Elon Musk will reportedly not receive highest-level government security clearance
The billionaire ketamine enthusiast who spent several hundred million dollars helping elect Donald Trump may not get a seat at the biggest-boy table after all, on account of, well, all that enthusiasm for ketamine and whatnot. Musk has reportedly been advised by SpaceX lawyers not to seek highest-level security clearances owing to his well-documented personal drug use and contacts with foreign nationals. Oops.
Justin Trudeau "considering resignation" after shock clash with finance minister
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is reported to be considering stepping down amid a crisis that saw his own finance minister and long-time ally resign over Donald Trump’s threat to start a tariff war. The episode represents one of the greatest challenges yet of Trudeau’s nearly 10 years as prime minister. His approval rating, which was as high as 63 percent when he was first elected, has repeatedly dipped below 30 percent this year amid economic struggles, a housing shortage, and disagreements about the issue of immigration. It seems the aftershocks of the MAGA cult leader's seismic re-election in November are being felt well beyond our northern border.

American abortion patients put in extreme danger by Trump and his cronies
National Network of Abortion Funds: Abortion rights are under attack by right-wing extremists across the country, and it's about to get a hundred times worse under President Trump and Republican control of the government. That's why Dose of Democracy is working overtime to help raise money for the National Network of Abortion Funds and make sure they have the resources they need to provide care to as many patients as possible before it's too late. Will you make a donation to help those on the front lines of the war for reproductive rights?
Democratic panel picks 74-year-old Rep. Gerry Connolly over AOC for top House Oversight post
It seems Democrats aren't quite ready to finally pass the baton to the next generation of leaders, at least in the House, anyway. A powerful panel of congressional Democrats on Monday recommended 74-year-old Rep. Gerry Connolly, of Virginia, over Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez to be the top Democratic post on the House Oversight Committee, favoring a senior member of the party’s caucus — who is also currently battling cancer — to take on a second Trump administration dead set on blasting through whatever guardrails are left in Washington. The closed-door meeting of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, which is closely aligned with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, yielded 34 votes for Connolly and 27 for Ocasio-Cortez. However, sources close to AOC says she says she intends to move forward with a full caucus vote and "feels good about her chances."
Pam Bondi convinced Rudy Giuliani to join her in challenge to 2020 election that got him disbarred
Oh, Rudy. It doesn't seem fair that so many others in MAGAland escaped more or less unscathed, even though they all played the same stupid, seditious games as you. But, then again, you took stupid to new heights and with unparalleled aplomb, and for that you won the stupidest prizes.
Fox News' Peter Doocy warns Trump’s possible reversal of TikTok ban "would not sit well with a lot of elected Republicans"
Something tells us the invertebrates and sycophants that make up today's GOP will find it in their chest cavities to fall in line and enthusiastically embrace whatever hard pivots Donald opts to make.
New York officials considering making a "special hotline" for threats against CEOs
It really is a little too on the nose that we can have 323 school shootings in one year and zero action but ONE corporate executive gets shot and all of a sudden elected officials are springing into action to keep the CEOs safe.

America, the beautiful?
What a wonderful world?
Hope...
