Polar bears with cub

Hi John,

We're just a few weeks away from polar bears' Arctic home being sold off to the highest bidder.

An auction will be held that could desecrate the pristine wilderness of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with oil wells.

It's going to be the fight of a lifetime to keep this place safe for polar bears, caribou, Arctic foxes and the many other animals who live there.

Please give today to the special Alaska and Arctic Defense Fund. Thanks to a generous champion of the Arctic, your gift will be matched.

The last time an auction like this was held, just days before Trump left office in 2021, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge was sold off for only $25 an acre.

In addition to the 2021 lease sale, the 2017 Tax Act passed under Trump 1.0 mandates a second auction for oil leases in the refuge. That sale will be happening Jan. 9.

And the fight is only going to ramp up. It will be up to the Trump administration to oversee any subsequent permitting, exploration and development.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the last place that should be plundered by greedy corporate interests and ruined with oil wells.

The Center for Biological Diversity will be on the ground in Alaska to defend and hold the line against private profiteers.

We're already in court fighting the Willow project, which would turn Alaska's Western Arctic Reserve — one of the largest, most intact wild places in the world — into an oilfield.

The majestic Arctic landscape has to be protected to avoid worsening the extinction and climate crises.

We're bolstering our team for the many tough battles ahead. We need to be prepared on day one, because that's when attacks on the wild will start.

We'll be ready — with your help.

Start a monthly donation today so you can have the most powerful impact on our uncompromising defense of the natural world — and be with us every day as we secure a future for the wild.

For the wild,

Kierán Suckling
