Hi Reader,

Our newsroom has a singular focus: to publish investigative journalism that’s well-researched, nonpartisan, fact-checked and devoted to revealing what’s going on behind the scenes with our elected officials, government institutions, big corporations and more. When journalism like this gets into the hands of readers, change can follow.

Here are some significant developments that came from our reporting:

Exposing Gaps in Reproductive Care: ProPublica was the first to expose the tragic deaths of Amber Nicole Thurman <[link removed]> and Candi Miller <[link removed]>, who could not access legal abortions or timely medical care amid Georgia’s abortion ban. Since October, we have reported on three pregnant Texas women who died after doctors delayed treating miscarriages <[link removed]>. Our investigations into the deaths of Thurman <[link removed]>, Miller <[link removed]>, Josseli Barnica <[link removed]>, Nevaeh Crain <[link removed]> and Porsha Ngumezi <[link removed]> highlight how health care for pregnant patients has changed in states like Texas and Georgia that banned abortion, and how that can lead to deaths that experts deem preventable.

Uncovering Educational Inequity: With our publishing partner the Idaho Statesman, our comprehensive coverage of the crumbling infrastructure in Idaho school districts led lawmakers to approve $2 billion in funding to repair and replace schools over the next decade, with the governor citing the investigation’s photos <[link removed]> in his address to the state. A community that had for decades rejected efforts to approve bonds for a new school also approved a $20 million bond after our stories ran.

Revealing Judicial Misconduct: After our meticulous investigation <[link removed]> into Supreme Court ethics and gift disclosures, the court released a code of conduct <[link removed]> governing the behavior of the country’s most powerful judges, a first in its 235-year history. The investigation won the Pulitzer Prize for public service <[link removed]> and has ignited a nationwide dialogue on judicial ethics and transparency.

Investigations like these are time-consuming and expensive. We’re able to produce this kind of journalism because of readers like you. As a nonprofit newsroom, we rely on donations from individuals for the majority of our funding. Today, I’m asking you to join ProPublica with a donation of any amount. <[link removed]>

Our members’ financial support gives us a dependable source of funding, and that matters for an organization like ours — many of our investigations can take months or even years to fully report. We need folks like you to stand with us.

Give today and stand up for powerful journalism that shines a light on stories that make a real difference. <[link removed]>

Thanks so much,

Jill Shepherd
