John,
This morning, we received the wrenching news of another school shooting,
this time in Madison, Wisconsin.
We are horrified that this is happening once again. Our hearts are with
those who lost their lives, their families and friends, and the
regrettably growing community of survivors of gun violence in this
country.
Details from Wisconsin are still emerging, but one thing is clear: This
isn’t normal. We cannot accept gun violence as a part of our lives.
This act of violence should have never occurred, and we should not be
scared to send our kids to school nor should our teachers be scared to go
to work because of the threat of a shooting.
Our “leaders” shouldn’t be more interested in pandering to the gun lobby
to score political points than they are in keeping us safe. It is
sickening to know that school is not a safe place to be a child in America
thanks to politicians' inaction.
Today our hearts break again. Tomorrow, we continue our fight for a safer
future where mass shootings are no longer a threat to our everyday lives.
We refuse to inherit a country where gun violence is the norm.
