Dear John,
It's time to call out so-called 'Stand Your Ground' laws for what they are
— racist policies tantamount to invitations for people to shoot to kill in
public, even when they can safely walk away from the danger. That's why
we're launching a campaign to get rid of 'Stand Your Ground' once and for
all.
'Stand Your Ground' has led to tragic shootings—like the recent murder of
Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick, Georgia—and has had a disproportionate impact
on communities of color. Georgia Moms Demand Action is collecting petition
signatures, contacting lawmakers, and speaking out on social media in an
effort to end this deadly, racist policy. And with your help, we're going
to expand our fight to end 'Stand Your Ground' in every state where it's
currently legal.

John, at least 30 people are killed nationwide every month in
so-called 'Stand Your Ground' incidents.
'Stand Your Ground' upends centuries of traditional self-defense doctrine
and threatens public safety by allowing a person to kill another person in
a public area even when they can clearly and safely retreat. Evidence
shows that these laws do not deter crime and are associated with increases
in gun violence. When white shooters kill Black victims, white shooters
are successful in using 'Stand Your Ground' defenses much more frequently
than when the shooter is Black and the victim is white.
That was the case in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. And the gun lobby has
managed to get 25 states to adopt the racist law.
[ [link removed] ]With your help, we'll work state-by-state to repeal 'Stand Your Ground'
laws, prevent other states from passing this deadly, racist policy, and
end gun violence in America. Please donate what you can today.
Thanks for all you do to end gun violence,
John Feinblatt
