John,
It’s time for Democratic Party leadership to pass the torch to the next generation, and that includes making Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus, led by Justice Democrats’ own Reps. Greg Casar, Pramila Jayapal, and Ilhan Omar, voted overwhelmingly to endorse AOC as ranking member of the Oversight Committee.
Like Greg said, “If Democrats want to retake the majority, AOC is who we want leading Oversight to hold Trump accountable. When Democrats retake the majority, AOC is who we want chairing this key committee — holding CEOs, Wall Street, and mega-corporations accountable.”
Reports indicated AOC was in a prime position to take on this role until news broke that former House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi is getting involved:
Instead of supporting AOC, Pelosi is reportedly working to quash her bid for this influential role and pushing for a 15-year incumbent to win it.
This election made clear that the Democratic Party needs to usher in a new era, led by new leaders who actually understand and speak to the priorities of everyday people. It cannot be led by career politicians clinging to their old ways, ideas, and agendas that brought us here.
While we demand the Democratic establishment learn from its mistakes and promote proven, bold leaders like AOC to key roles like this, we’re not wasting any time working to find even more working-class progressives to challenge out-of-touch incumbents for their seats in 2026.
The number of working-class, progressive candidates we’re able to recruit and elect to Congress depends directly on how much we raise from emails like this one. Thanks for anything you can give to fuel our fight for change.
