In fact, Uruguay was one of the first nations to establish official relations with the newly-formed Jewish state in 1948. In January 2020, Uruguay became the first Latin American country to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism. Join us for a conversation with Uruguay’s new President, Luis Lacalle Pou, who travelled to Israel with AJC in 2018, and took office on March 1, just before the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in Uruguay.
