I’ve had a few weeks to collect my thoughts about what happened on Election Day, and I thought I’d take a moment to jot them down and share them with you. ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏

Folks,
As I reflect on the recent election results, I find myself thinking about what makes Groundwork Project unique.
We do something no other national organization does: Groundwork Project invests in building up sustainable, pro-democracy organizing efforts in “red” states.
This strategy wasn’t made up on a whim, either. It was designed to fill in the gaps left by other organizations and campaigns that hyper-focus on a handful of “battleground” states, only during election years.
For years, we’ve known that this cyclical approach is not an effective way to build the power we need to secure a more equitable future.
Who is going to turn out to vote for leaders who only show up when they want something around Election Day?
How will we find out what those voters want or need if you aren’t part of an ongoing conversation with them – instead of just a door-knock in November?
The challenge is often the messenger, more than the message.
The biggest obstacle our partners face is oftentimes a lack of resources to uplift strong messengers who can organically and consistently communicate with the voters we need to reach — and build lasting, trusting relationships with them.
No one understands these people better than local organizers. Groundwork’s partners are deeply rooted in their local community, living and breathing the actual stakes of our biggest fights, whether that is inflation or racial oppression.
They know how to talk to their neighbors, but, because they don’t have a “battleground” zipcode, many have ignored them for generations.
I’m biased, but I really believe Groundwork offers a solution to this problem.
If there is one thing I’m more certain of than ever before, it’s that we need to be doing what our opposition has been doing for decades: Investing long-term in durable local organizing infrastructure that is equipped to engage in year-round conversations with voters.
You can be a part of this by pitching in today, folks.
