Hi Friend,
Donald Trump promised to launch the largest deportation operation in the country’s history on day 1 of his administration. We’ve been here before and know we need to start building up our defenses before Trump’s first day in office.
We’re gearing up to defend our communities by running a Know-Your-Rights training series for our immigrant members. Organizing directly in our communities and making sure our members have these skills is the first line of defense against attacks from ICE raids and arrests.
Building out this program and rapid-response trainings to come is a critical frontline defense against deportations.
I'm making a personal ask of you today — can you support this work by chipping in $15, $25, or any amount you can to scale up our Know-Your-Rights trainings?
We held our first Know-Your-Rights training earlier this month, and I heard from NYCC members who were anxious and afraid about their future in this country.
After the training, our members felt prepared to defend their rights in case they encounter immigration agents. Instead of isolation and fear, NYCC members are getting ready with the information they need to protect themselves and their families.
Our goal is to scale these trainings so we can reach ALL of our members, covering topics like what to do if ICE comes to your home or workplace, or actions to take if a loved one is detained.
Here’s the rundown on our training costs:
- $300 for translation services for each training — 12 donations of $25 can cover the cost for one training.
- $1,200 for approx. 200 meals to feed members and their families — a $15 donation can feed 2 people, and $50 can feed 7 people.
- $600 for 200 MetroCards for members to commute to trainings — 12 donations of $50 can cover this cost fully.
These trainings can keep our communities safe, and we need your support to run them at scale.
Will you join this fight to defend our communities by chipping in toward our Know-Your-Rights campaign?
Grassroots supporters like you are needed in this fight, and together I know we can protect each other against Trump’s deportation machine.
In solidarity,
Sol Freire
