Why is energy development so important to Alaska? Governor Dunleavy weighs in on the latest episode of The Unregulated Podcast. Now streaming on our website, or wherever you listen.

"It is appalling that wealthy California, with its 'green mandates,' continues to burden its residents with humongous costs to transition to just electricity and support unethical, immoral, and hypocritical actions to obtain exotic minerals and metals from poorer developing countries to achieve that electricity transition. The minuscule impact of the 40 million Californians on this planet of 8 billion is analogous to an individual urinating in the ocean, which will not change the temperature of the ocean waters!"

Good advice from a guy who has negotiated a bill or two in his day...

Washington Times (12/13/24) op-ed from AEA President Tom Pyle: "The election of President-elect Donald Trump and a Republican-controlled Senate and House offers a rare and timely opportunity for Washington to reshape America’s environmental and energy policies. Recent court decisions, such as the Supreme Court’s ending of the Chevron doctrine and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit’s challenge to the Council on Environmental Quality’s authority over the National Environmental Policy Act, suggest that the old ways of thinking about energy policy are on the way out — and the door is open for policymakers to rethink America’s energy future. The country still faces high energy prices due to inflationary pressures not seen since the Great Depression, adding to the financial strain on families across the country. Meanwhile, much of the world has shrugged off the Left’s climate obsession in favor of more balanced, pro-growth energy policies. In this environment, the case for a new direction in American energy policy has never been stronger. Trump has recognized the moment as a golden opportunity to assert American energy dominance on the world stage. His creation of a National Energy Council signals a clear commitment to unleashing our energy potential and lowering costs for families and businesses...Trump’s reelection presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rethink and rebuild our permitting system and, with it, American energy policy. With the right leadership in the White House and a clear-eyed vision, congressional Republicans can advance permitting reform legislation that not only enhances U.S. energy dominance but also lowers costs, spurs economic growth, and strengthens national security. But first, they must resist the call to settle before they even get the chance."

Remind me again why we would want to reward Joe Manchin instead of waiting for Donald Trump?

E&E News (12/14/24) reports: "A last-gasp effort to attach a permitting package to year-end spending and disaster legislation has failed, several people familiar with the situation told POLITICO’s E&E News. Others say talks are still ongoing. Lawmakers like Senate Energy and Natural Resources Chair Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) and House Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) have been trying to secure a deal to bolster the electric grid and ease the approval process for all types of energy projects. But they have been unable to clinch an agreement acceptable to all sides, according to people familiar with the situation who were granted anonymity to speak candidly...Conservative groups like the American Energy Alliance and the Competitive Enterprise Institute crafted a letter of opposition, arguing a permitting agreement would only help the Democrats’ green goals."

Read the room, EPA...

Washington Post (12/13/24) reports: "The Environmental Protection Agency plans to grant California permission to set stronger climate rules for cars and SUVs — a move that President-elect Donald Trump could attempt to reverse — according to two people briefed on the matter. The EPA intends to issue California a waiver as soon as next week to enforce its rule aimed at banning sales of new gasoline-powered cars in the state by 2035, said the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly. The Trump administration will probably try to revoke the waiver, although those efforts could run into legal obstacles. The EPA plan underscores how President Joe Biden is racing to Trump-proof his climate legacy before leaving office next month. Just this week, his administration moved to block new mining in a sensitive watershed and to ban two cancer-causing chemicals used in a variety of consumer products and industrial settings. Under the Clean Air Act, California can receive a waiver from the EPA to set tougher vehicle emissions rules than those of the federal government. More than a dozen other states follow California’s stricter rules, collectively accounting for about 40 percent of the U.S. auto market...'I will end the electric vehicle mandate on day one,' Trump said in his speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, adding that the move would result in 'saving the U.S. auto industry from complete obliteration.'"
