Dear Friends,
As we close out 2024, I'm excited to reflect on the progress we've made together for California. This year brought significant achievements in financial empowerment, education, clean energy, housing, and global partnerships. Here's a look back at some of the key highlights:
Expanding Financial Empowerment
* ScholarShare 529 & CalKIDS: We made saving for college easier through special promotions and the Ugiftplatform, helping families invest in their children’s futures
.
* CalABLE: We expanded CalABLE eligibility, empowering more veterans and people with disabilities to save for their future without losing benefits.
Supporting Affordable Housing and Veterans
* California Dream for All: We helped first-time homebuyers achieve homeownership with down payment assistance.

* Veterans' Housing: We supported veterans through CalVet Home Loans and the redevelopment of the West LA VA Campus, creating housing and essential services for those who served our country.
Investing in Education
* Cal-HBCU Transfer Grant Program: Grants of up to $5,000 helped students transfer from California Community Colleges to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

* Financial Literacy: We ensured that starting in 2029, high school students will complete a personal finance course before graduation (AB 2927).
Advancing Clean Energy and Innovation
* Zero-Emission Vehicles: We launched CalCAP Zero-Emission Heavy-Duty Programs to support small businesses in adopting clean transportation.

* Sparkz Manufacturing: Celebrated the opening of Sparkz’s new battery facility, creating jobs and promoting sustainable technology.

* Sales Tax Exclusion (STE) Program: $98 million in incentives supported companies developing green technologies.
Strengthening Global Partnerships
* International Engagement: We fostered economic partnerships with leaders from the UK, Italy, China, Latvia, Korea, Vietnam, and more, driving investments and innovation in California.
Protecting Californians' Financial Health
* Cybersecurity Awareness: Promoted online safety tips and fraud prevention.

* Fraud Prevention: Dedicated staff like Chai Wood saved millions by thwarting fraud attempts.
Serving Our Communities
* Public Service Internships: 16 interns gained hands-on experience in public finance.

* Community Engagement: From NAACP conferences to preparing Thanksgiving meals at GLIDE, we supported equity and service across the state.
Thank you for your continued support. Here's to a brighter, more prosperous 2025!
In Peace and Friendship,
